Brooks Dean | 3 Months

THREE months with our Texas Boy!

I cannot believe it has been three months. Time has flown by but we continue to love every minute of it. I am so fortunate to be able to stay home with our little guy.

Brooks has popped completely out of that newborn shell and is wide awake most of the day. He is not a big fan of naps so we are working on that. To be outright he has complete FOMO. His vision has changed drastically and he now stares so intently at objects around the room and his love for staring at ceiling fans continues.

During his third month, he dropped a sneeze, but boy does he sneeze a lot! The hiccups are usually twice a day occurrence as well. He gets so frustrated with them but Gripe water has been helping. His smile just keeps getting bigger and is always present during the ABC’s and Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Mr. Independent now hates being held towards your body and always wants to be able to see out into the room. During the day he still wants to be held a lot of the time and constantly moved. I swear I need to track how much I walk with this little guy.

Since we did not have a three-month checkup we weighed him at home. You can just tell from photos how much he has grown in the last month! His personality is really starting to shine through and he wants what he wants…and of course, he gets it.

Weight: 13 pounds 7 ounces (35th percentile)
Clothing: 0-3 Month Clothing
Diapers: Size 1

We took his pediatricians tips and changed how he lays in the crib so he wants to keep his head towards the door. I talked to a friend to get some more advice on torticollis (when one neck muscle is slightly shorter than the other) and she gave me a ton of exercises and tips on strengthening his neck muscle and the difference in such a short amount of time has been amazing. His face has also almost cleared completely. We began using a baby exfoliator to help his face breakouts and we use it on his arms and legs just to help get the dead skin off since he is growing like a weed! I love his little giggle when we use it. He is getting quite ticklish.

Firsts:

  • New Years
  • Pair of Cowboy Boots (Thanks Aunt Jenn)
  • Trip to the Aquarium
  • Visit to Daddy’s work
  • Trip to the Bay (he was not a fan-Photo Below)
  • Meeting Uncle Alex

Sleeping:

Brooks continues to be an amazing sleeper. He continues to sleep through the night, most nights. If he does wake it is once, usually around 4:30. We started leaving his arms out of his swaddle and now have taken it off for most nights and he sleeps just as well. He is still a wiggle monster in the crib (while being fully asleep). He has now completely turned himself around twice. The first time I was so confused and was convinced Marshall must have put him back down a different way. After I checked his monitor I saw how he just scooted himself around. He is just a wiggle worm. His longest stretch has now been 12 hours but on average will sleep for 9-10 a night.

Eating:

We continue to supplement, but the transition is getting harder for him. He prefers the bottle as he gets it faster. For now, we will continue but seeing him growing so much and being a happier baby has helped all of my decisions. He is still spitting up and some days super fussy. We have talked about maybe switching formulas soon to see if it helps. He is drinking 5 ounces now at night and continuing eating every 3 hours during the day. On days he is fussy and in a leap (wonder weeks app has been amazing for this) he sometimes wants to eat a little sooner than every 3 hours.

Developmental:

Brooks now stares at just about everything he can see. I bought these black and white cards off of amazon. We personally have decided to not let him have battery toys or light up toys. I know the time will come, but for now, we are letting his brain grow without all of the extra stimulation. But these cards have been such a hit. He smiles and giggles when we show them to him. We have found our hands! You can find him most of the day with them in his mouth. He is beginning to drool some too, all of the bibs are already coming in handy. He continues to hate tummy time but is learning to love bath time!

Loves:

  • Black and White cards
  • His Hands
  • Getting his hair brushed

Hates:

  • Tummy Time
  • Naps
  • Being away from Mommy and Daddy

I am still not over being your mama, and honestly, I don’t think I ever will be and I am completely okay with that. I love watching you gain your own personality. Seeing you learn the basics of seeing objects, finding your hands, and trying to stand is amazing. Your eyes are still blue (and I am secretly hoping they stay that way like mine, sorry Daddy). Your hair is starting to grow in so thick. You have the cutest double chin and the world’s most contagious smile.

Baby Boy, you are more than we ever expected and better than we ever imagined.
